CANAL HISTORY

The Oakham Canal, an extension of the Melton Mowbray Navigation, opened in 1802. Despite bringing significant economic benefit to local towns and villages, the canal closed just 50 years later.

CANAL WILDLIFE

Local environmental consultancy Ecology Resources undertake regular site surveys, uncovering evidence of the variety of flora and fauna at the canal.
